From Instrument to Report Without Retyping a Single Number
There's a specific kind of lab error that no amount of careful science prevents: the transcription error. A number is read off an instrument, typed into a spreadsheet, then typed again into a report. Each hop is a chance for a digit to flip. Instrument Import exists to remove those hops.
The cost of retyping
Transcription errors are insidious because they're invisible. The number looks perfectly reasonable — it's just wrong. And because it was entered by hand, there's no automatic check that it matches what the instrument actually produced. By the time it surfaces, it may already be in a report a customer has seen.
What Instrument Import does
Instrument Import brings instrument output into ChemPlus Business directly, so the data that lands in the system is the data the instrument produced — not a hand-keyed copy of it. The number you report is traceable back to the run that generated it, not to whoever typed fastest that afternoon.
Where it fits in the workflow
The real payoff is what it connects to:
- The imported data attaches to the sample it belongs to in Sample Tracking.
- A CoA generated from that sample inherits values that were never manually re-entered.
- The Audit Trail records the import, so the provenance of each number is part of the record.
