Why We Built Virtual Lab

We kept hearing the same story from instructors: lab time is limited, equipment is shared across too many sections, and students often see a procedure for the first time on the same day they're expected to run it safely. Virtual Lab is our answer to that.

Run the experiment — including the mistakes

Virtual Lab is a set of interactive experiment simulations you run directly in your browser — distillation, gas properties, UV-Vis spectrometry, molecule building, energy forms, pH scales, and more. You choose reagents, set conditions, and watch the reaction play out. Crucially, that includes the mistakes: adding the wrong reagent or the wrong concentration shows you the consequence without anyone needing safety goggles.

That's the part a textbook can't do. Reading that an excess of a reagent causes a problem is not the same as choosing it and watching the problem happen. The simulation lets a student be wrong safely, which is exactly when learning sticks.

A pre-lab that makes class time go further

It's not meant to replace a real lab bench — it's meant to remove the anxiety of doing something for the first time in front of a grade. Instructors have told us they now assign Virtual Lab as a pre-lab, so students arrive already familiar with the procedure and class time goes toward the actual experiment instead of first-time fumbling.
